He fondly remembered the days when Frank’s Billiards hosted highly competitive tournaments. Zummo said in his pool hall’s heydays, from the late 1980s to early 2000s, he had 12 tables and a large clientele that ranged from students at nearby North High School to self-styled pool sharks from across Lake County and Northeast Ohio. After a stop in Timberlake, the business moved to a more spacious storefront on Vine Street. In 1982, Zummo opened the first incarnation of Frank’s Billiards in another storefront on Vine Street. “I played at a high level and had some really good battles on the tables,” he said. Zummo wielded a mean cue stick in his day. “It was incredible place,” Zummo said of the long-gone indoor recreation center in Mayfield Heights that had pool tables, an Olympic-size swimming pool with diving board, an 18-hole miniature golf course and pinball machines. Zummo’s introduction to pool came in 1966 when he landed a job as an attendant at Eastgate Coliseum.

“Those walls are full of memories for me,” Zummo said.
